Ryan didn't forget what I said even though I had. You see, I was just trying to dismiss the idea without sounding like a total wuss and saying I couldn't do it. Knowing Ryan is generally about immediate gratification I figured there was no way he could wait another entire year to do an ironman.
Well Chris goofed up that plan. Somewhere along the line Chris figured he might consider doing an ironman too but he too wanted to do it in 2014. Or maybe he was trying to pull the same trick I was. Regardless, Ryan now had TWO people talked into it (in his mind). It was decided, Ironman in 2014! The other details would work themselves out, but Ryan was in and was convinced that he had at least two other suckers.
I am not sure when the above came to be, but it was probably late fall or early winter of 2012. I was in the process of losing weight (a constant yo-yo for me) and was just starting to jog. I would say run but it really was more of a shuffle and was less than a mile those first few times.
So to me, this was the beginning of Ironman. It was still a dream, or as I considered it, a pipe dream. But the idea was formed. We would work towards getting in better shape and think about signing up for an ironman.....
There were many excuses that I had already put in place in case I failed (quit, chickened out, burned out, etc) and many of these early blogs will be about those excuses.
