I posted this on Facebook and thought it was worthy of a blog entry.
Thursdays thoughts: I hate pirating someone else's post but sorry Sara Dalton I have to. Sara posted "don't sweat the technique" last night and I got a good chuckle out of it for various plays in what her post may have meant. But today I was swimming in Masters swim class and was frustrated because I really haven't been getting much faster. Don't get me wrong, I have improved, but very slowly. While we were doing relaxed swimming drills it sunk in that while I knew swimming was all about the technique, I haven't been sweating enough about the technique. Yeah I do the drills, but I don't put the level of focus or attention into the drills like I do with effort. Every other athletic event I have ever done, effort output can make up for lack of technique. But not swimming. So today, mid-swim, I decided to focus more on my technique and to put the same effort into technique as I do into just swimming. So, toe-tickler Anna O'Donnell, you will be leading our group while I practice relaxed swimming or whatever other drill to the full extent.
